Advanced EMT Initial

This is a hybrid and asynchronous course that lasts approximately 20 weeks. You will be required to complete class via an interactive online classroom and there will be online activities, including live online meetings. A weekly online lecture will be recorded and available for review. There will be in-person lab dates, which are listed below under "show sessions." These are the only in-person meetings. The rest of the coursework is completed online weekly at your pace.

Description

Our 280-hour Hybrid, Asynchronous Advanced EMT program exceeds the minimum hours as required for certification as an Advanced EMT in South Carolina (248 hours minimum required by the Department of Public Health). This program is the next certification level above EMT Basic. This program prepares the candidate to provide more advance level care to victims of trauma and airway compromise as well as providing the student with more in-depth patient assessment skills. Skills taught in this program include IV therapy, basic ECG recognition, IO administration and medication administration.

 

South Carolina State certification will be awarded, by the Department of Public Health, to those graduates who successfully complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians computer-based written examination, which is the exit/certification examination for all South Carolina initial EMT, AEMT and NRP courses.

 

Entrance Requirements:

· a high school diploma or a GED (attestation signed during enrollment)

· must be eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last scheduled day of class

· Must maintain at minimum a South Carolina or National Registry EMT certification throughout the course.

· Complete an entrance assessment which tests basic EMT knowledge as well as medical terminology

· Each student must be covered by employer's Worker's Compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout intermediate training.

· The clinical contracts require that our office have on file for each student participating in the clinical process a current health statement verifying that the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within twelve (12) months of the beginning of the class and verifying immunization against:

o MMR, Seasonal Flu Vaccine, TDaP, Covid-19 (initial dose, booster not required), Varicella and Hepatitis B. The Health Statement form and detailed instructions will be provided during orientation.
