EMT Basic Hybrid Initial

This is a hybrid and asynchronous course that lasts approximately 16 weeks. You will be required to complete the class via an interactive online classroom and there will be online activities, including live online meetings. A weekly online lecture will be recorded and available for review. There will be in-person lab dates, which are listed below under "show sessions." These are the only in-person meetings. The rest of the coursework is completed online weekly at your pace

Description

Our 240-hour Hybrid EMT-Basic program exceeds the minimum hours as required for certification as a Basic EMT in South Carolina (200 hours minimum required by DPH). This is the initial pre-hospital emergency medical technician certification in South Carolina and there are no prerequisites. This program prepares the candidate to provide basic emergency medical care to victims of trauma and illness. This course follows and exceeds the 2009 US Department of Transportation (DOT) / National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum. 
South Carolina State certification will be awarded by the Department of Public Health, EMS Division, to those graduates who successfully complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians computer-based written examination, which is the exit/certification examination for all South Carolina initial EMT, AEMT and NRP courses.
Entrance Requirements:
  • a high school diploma or a GED (attestation signed during enrollment)
  • must be eighteen (18) years of age prior to the last scheduled day of class
  • Complete an entrance assessment which tests basic EMT knowledge as well as medical terminology
  • Be physically fit and able to perform all the tasks required of an EMT-Basic (refer to Appendix A: Americans with Disabilities Act, Attachment 1: Functional Position Description, for description of all essential duties of an EMT
  • Each student must be covered by the employer's worker's compensation or have major medical health insurance that remains in effect throughout intermediate training.
  • The clinical contracts require that our office have on file for each student participating in the clinical process a current health statement verifying that the student has tested negative for tuberculosis within twelve (12) months of the beginning of the class and verifying immunization against the following: MMR, Seasonal Flu Vaccine, TDaP, Varicella and Hepatitis B. The Health Statement form and detailed instructions will be provided during orientation.

**PAYMENT IS DUE IN FULL PRIOR TO THE HALF-WAY POINT OF THE COURSE** Failure of the course is not a relief of the debt, in full, to the Institution. By enrolling, you understand that you are financially liable for the entire course cost, in accordance with our refund policy, as stated within the contract that you will sign after enrollment through this system.

Please note: If a student withdraws from the EMT program in writing, seven (7) or more calendar days before the program start date the student will receive a full tuition refund minus a $50.00 administrative fee.
